Game Point Malcolm Hollingdrake Books
This is the fourth DCI Bennett bilk I have read. I have been keenly interested because I was stationed with the US Army near Harrogate for three years from 1962 until 1965.I was originally attracted to the books by the story location, but was then impressed by the excellent criminal investigation procedures. I eagerly await the next DCI Bennett story.

Game Point Malcolm Hollingdrake Books Reviews
You know when you really like a series, and by like, I mean love, and can't wait for the next instalment, but you also try to savour it, making it last until you hopefully get one more book eked into the series? Well this is one of mine. Although we have been lucky enough to not have to wait long, it was long enough.
Also, again, look at the cover, isn't it tempting?
Malcolm is one of my favourite authors and he came up with another masterful plot for a book. As always Malcolm takes an every day object and uses it to his advantage to make a crime that you wouldn't think would be possible. With his attention to detail and twisted crimes it made for a highly clever and intensive read.
There was a point in the book, where I could have slapped my head, and gone of course! When it clicked as to who was behind the crimes.
This is the fourth in the series (Only the Dead, Hells Gate, and Flesh Evidence), and I can sincerely say that it is the best, it took me in and churned up my emotions, and as much of a page turner it was, I didn't always want to know the outcome. When I did, it was with trepidation and fear, then within a few pages again, the emotions turned.
Cyril and Owen are brilliant partners and having read the previous books, this was pacey, gripping and I really felt the tension of the case with Cyril as he helped unravel what was going on to save his team member.
I hope we see more from Malcolm, this really is a series that goes from strength to strength.
I've read all four of the "DCI Bennett Series" Books. I HIGHLY recommend this book and this series. Reading a series in order is not always a requirement, but you'll get a better sense of continuity, interaction amongst the characters.
Wish he could write as fast as I read. I was not too sure about this author as I started on one of the books in this series. I think I complained about 'too many characters'.
Well, I got over that, my failing actually, getting older. I will truly miss "Liz"!!!
What a God Awful Job the men and women in law enforcement have to do and the things they have to put up with. No, I know their not ALL paragons of perfect virtue. No matter the country. But We civilians just keep piling on more and more 'rules, regulations' and some are just totally idiotic.
Personal opinion, non book related
In REAL life I figure if a cop tells you to stop, innocent or not, trying to runaway is pretty DUMB. No way are you going to outrun a bullet, and it's not all that easy **to only **slightly wound** a running perpetrator..
Though I do wish ALL cops were supplied with stun guns to use as a first resort. And body cams that they can not shut off til it's deactivated back at headquarters, by a supervisor.
I used to be against jumping into a series in the middle but as my TBR has grown sky high, I’ve learned to get over it and just do it. I’m so glad I did as I’ve read some fantastic books that I may have otherwise overlooked based solely on the fact that they were tenth in a series. All of that to say, you can read this as a standalone, I wasn’t bothered by starting with book four, BUT I do feel like I missed out on forming a deeper connection with the characters and I’m kicking myself for not making the time for the first three books. My point is that you should read this, but you should also start at the beginning so you’re not kicking yourself like I am.
Cyril was a complex character, one that comes off as rather reserved but on the inside there’s a lot going on. He has some quirks, but those type of things always make me like a person more and it made him stand out in a sea of other detectives from crime novels. What really drew me into this book, and to him as a character especially was the emotional turmoil he was experiencing. The case he’s working is brutal and when a member of the team is kidnapped, all hell breaks loose. Things are obviously deeply personal for Cyril and the added pressure made me feel all the more profoundly for him and his team.
While the characterization was complex the plot was equally intricate and had me struggling to fit all the puzzle pieces together myself. Hollingdrake’s writing was descriptive and very gritty, this is a grim, gruesome case and things are extremely graphically detailed, so beware if you’re faint hearted. I really liked this one and I’m excited to see where the author takes this series and Cyril next, the possibilities are endless and exciting.
